Hello!
This is the first part of the journey: baby hellenistic steps! How to start, how to make your altar and a couple of things you should know. Let's start! I mix the religion with witchcraft, so maybe it's not 100% useful for everyone but I'll try my best.
First of all, think about it for a second: do you really want to join the hellenistic religion? Does it gives you tingles? Does it makes you happy? Does it make you feel in peace?
Obviously, if you try and you don't like it or you don't feel good, you can quite. But if you quite when you already made a connection with the gods, maybe it's not that easy to make them go.
Please, remember this is not a game, it's kinda serious. Think about it.
It's so important to be connected with the universe on an espiritual level. The base of all of this is having an harmony between us and the different energies of the universe.
We can make it happen by meditation.
Meditation isn't about sitting quietly on the floor and breath. It's about thinking, opening the mind to the non terrenal world.
If you have never meditate, I recommend you to start with easy things. On YouTube there's a lot of free meditation content, you just have to find a creator with a voice you like. Easy meditations are, for example, mindfulness.
Step by step, you can go further with the meditations. There's no goal, just to be in harmony with the universe.
Once you start, you may experience a few months later a really painful headache: it's normal!! That means that your third eye is opening.
The third eye is in the middle of your forehead. It helps you to connect with the non terrenal world.
Science fact! The third eye is connected to the pineal gland, which regulates the melatonin on our body. Melatonin is the hormone that helps us to sleep, relieves stress and helps to provide serotonin (the happiness hormone).
So, when we meditate, we make the pineal gland work. That's why it's good for the health!
Once we start to be in harmony with the universe and connected to the energies, I recommend to make an altar.
An altar is a tiny space of your house where you are going to do the offerings, pray, light candles... If you live with your parents and you don't want them to know, it's okay not to make a full altar or you can make it low-key.
How to make an altar:
You need candles! Start with white ones because they are useful for everything. So go get a candle holder you like!
Incense is also important, so find one that smells good to you. Don't search all the incense guides out there because they'll tell you a lot of information that maybe it's useless later.
I recommend to buy crystals on any pagan shop nearby. Choose the ones you like (maybe you should ask or search about the power of every crystal in case you want something really specific).
I recommend to have a ceramic container for liquid offerings, laurel leaves, chestnuts and water.
I have moon water on my altar. You let a bottle of water all night under the moon light so it gets the moon energy. You can use it for offerings, drink, on a spray, to wash your hands... It's useful!
The reason why I recommend all of this is because it's better if you have the four elements on your altar: fire (candles), air (incense), earth (crystals, leaves...) and water. It's not 100% necessary but if you can, go ahead.
Now, how to make contact with the deities: start lighting candles as an offering to Hestia. Hestia is the goddess of the fire, the home, the family. Let her in and she will bring more deities.
All this process can take you months! Don't desperate!!
I started to meditate on April 2020, my third eye started to open on July. I lighted candles to Hestia for like four months until she made an appearance. So please, don't desperate!! It's a slow process but it's so beautiful.
Thanks for reading!
Next time I'll talk about the first connection with the deities!
