Let me introduce you to the greek deities

This part is for the people who is interested but haven't know that much about greek deities. Basically, the history but really short and fast! Enjoy!

TW // violence, cannibalism, incest, sexual content.

There's no one only version of the history, so you can choose the version you like most. I'll tell everything I can in the shortest way possible. Another day I'll tell everything but more detailed. Let's get started!

At the beginning there was Chaos. It was earth, fire, water, discordia, everything.
Chaos started to create stuff and that stuff had some personas.

Chaos created a lot, but I'm straight to the point: Chaos created Tartarus and Gaia.

Gaia is mother earth. She created Ponto (the sea) and Uranus (the sky).
Tartarus is what's under Gaia.

Gaia and Uranus had a lot of kids: three hekatonkheires (they had 100 arms eachother), three cyclops (they had one eye) and twelve titans.

Uranus proclaimed himself as the king of the universe, so he decided to lock his kids in Tartarus. Gaia didn't like it and made a plan to kill Uranus.
She asked her daughters and sons and one of them wanted to do it: Kronos.
Kronos is the titan of the time.

Basically, Kronos chopped Uranus genitals and throw them away. Then, Uranus told his son that one day his kids will defeat him as Kronos was doing at that moment.

Uranus' balls ended up on the sea, and that's how Aphrodite (goddess of love and beauty) was born.

Kronos proclaimed himself as the new king of the universe and married his sister, Rhea.

Rhea is the titan of motherhood, fertility and all that stuff.

Everything was okay until Rhea got pregnant.
Kronos was afraid of the Uranus' curse, so he committed a crime.

Rhea gave birth to Hestia, goddess of home and fire. Kronos literally ate Hestia, like, he swallowed her but he didn't kill her.

Hestia wasn't the only innocent baby Kronos ate: Demeter (goddess of harvest), Hera (goddess of marriage), Hades (god of wealth) and Poseidon (god of the sea).

Rhea got pregnant again and was so desperate that asked Gaia for help. Her mother gave her a rock of the size of a baby god and when she gave birth, she hid her baby in Crete.
Kronos ate the rock instead of the baby.

That last kid was Zeus (god of thunder) and he was raised by a goat on Crete with one clear goal: defeat his father.

When he was a teenage, Rhea took him to a party, where he was supposed to be a waiter. Zeus gave Kronos a potion that made him vomit, so all the swallowed kids were finally free.

They became eagles and flee to Crete. Then, a war for the power started. That war is called Titanomachy and lasted ten years.

Finally, as Uranus told Kronos, all his kids defeated him.

There were three parts of the world they had to distribute: the sky, the sea and the underworld. Each male brother became the king of one of those places.

Zeus became the king of the Olympus and the gods. Poseidon took the sea. Hades got the Underworld and became the god of the death.

The Underworld is the place where we all go when we die. If we are good, we go to the Elysium; if we are average, we go to the Asphodel meadows; if we are bad, we go to the Tartarus.

If you think the history for now is complicated, grab a paper and a pen because hereinafter it just get crazy.

Poseidon married a water lady called Amphitrite and she became the queen of the sea.

Zeus got married three times: two titans, one divorced and the other was eaten by Zeus while she was pregnant. The third one, his sister, Hera.
Hera became the queen of the Olympus and the gods.

Zeus and Hera had kids: Ares (god of war), Hepahestus (other versions say that he was only Hera's; god of forging), Hebe (goddess of youth), Eileithyia (goddess of births) and Enio (goddess of war).

Before he married Hera, he had a daughter with Demeter: Persephone (goddess of spring).
Persephone married Hades and became the queen of the Underworld. As she is the goddess of spring, she has to work in the world so she spends spring and summer up but autumn and winter she goes back to her realm. Long story.

Zeus isn't a great husband and had a lot of affairs. From those affairs, he had more kids than we can imagine. I'll be quick:

Remember the wife he ate while she was pregnant? Zeus give birth from his forehead to a grownup woman called Athena (goddess of wisdom).

He had an affair with a goddess named Leto and she gave birth to twins: Artemis (goddess of hunt) and Apollo (god of a lot of things like music, the sun, medicine, etc). Hera tried to kill Leto and the kids a few times.

Zeus had another affair with a pleiad named Maya and they had Hermes (god of messages).

He had another affair with a mortal named Semele. She was a princess and got pregnant. Hera got involved and Zeus killed Semele by showing his godly form. The baby wasn't ready to be born, so Zeus put him into his own leg. A few months later, Dionysus (god of wine) was "born". He was supposed to be a demigod but as the last months of gestation was on Zeus' leg, he was born a god.

Zeus had a lot of mortal kids, some of them were pretty famous like Heracles. I'll talk about those kids another day!

Hestia and Athena took a celibacy vote, so they didn't got married. Artemis too, but... Artemis had a hunt group of girls that didn't want to make contact with men; the Hunters of Artemis. The sapphics are always erased from the history, so we can believe that Artemis wasn't a virgin goddess. I'm not even sorry.

Aphrodite married Hephaestus, but she had a lot of affairs too. The most famous and important one: she's in a relationship with Ares. She gave birth to Eros (god of love) but the father isn't clear.
Aphrodite had kids with Zeus, Poseidon, Hermes, Dionysus, a few mortals... and there are a lot, so another day I'll talk about them!

Hermes had a son named Pan (god of the wild nature). Pan passed away because the humanity killed him.
Apollo has a famous son named Asclepius (god of medicine).
Dionysus married a mortal princess called Ariadne and when she died, he went to rescue her from the Underworld. He also rescued his mom.

Talking about the Underworld, there's some important deities there:

Hecate, goddess of magic. Thanatos, god of death. Hypnos, god of sleep. And the kids of Hades and Persephone: Makaria (goddess of death), Melinoe (goddess of ghost) and Zagreus (god of vegetation).
Makaria married Thanatos, by the way.
Some people say that Melinoe is Zeus and Persephone's daughter but it's because Hades was called "dark Zeus", so there's a misunderstood.

I made this in case the family isn't clear at all!

It was short and kinda messy, but I wanted to tell the history fast so we can move on, even if I have to go back to explain more detailed later.

Thank you for reading!
